Daily Weather and Snow Conditions

The Honest Word

Like all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians (especially skiers and riders), we are weather watchers. We also know it takes time to travel from Bonavista, Gander, or Paradise. The White Hills Resort manager gets out of bed before 5:00am each morning to gather information from grooming and snowmaking teams, and then make a call about operations that day. We promise to be honest and give you the word as soon as possible. Please know that conditions change rapidly in the Atlantic. Check this page and the White Hills Facebook page for up-to-date information.

How long does the season run?

It all depends on the year, but we expect to start making snow in mid-December and then open for skiing and riding by mid-January. Conditions are usually excellent until early April, with lifts running until mid-April if the snow is deep.

We make it happen!

Even if it’s brown in town, you’ll usually find lots of snow at White Hills. Like most ski and snowboard areas around the world, we use modern, high-efficiency snowmaking technology to give Mother Nature a helping hand. Our team works night and day when weather conditions allow, drawing water from Dark Hole Pond (at the base of the hill) to ensure smooth corduroy on trails like Easy Street, Joe’s Run, Boulder, and Riley’s. At the end of the season, where does the water from melting snow end up? Back in the pond. Now that’s what we call recycling.

Did you know?

Wind speed isn't the main factor when we decide if it is safe to open the chairlift. Strong wind that blows at right angles to the lift cause more issues than wind that blows uphill or downhill.
